Eco-literacy is:
  • To think holistically, think about the circular ecomony and the entire ecosystem
  • To evaluate all materials brought into the environment, and how they will impact in the environment, in the short term and the long term
  • Make choices for the collective best outcome creating sustainable human communities
  • The understanding that we are part of nature and play a role in the interconnection of everything
  • Understanding that the living web of natural systems make Life on Earth possible
  • Knowing the individual flora and fauna species in the immediate local ecosystem

Lerntree has four key factors woven into practice for learning ecoliteracy experientially: connection time in nature, developing an ecoliteracy lens, creating an environment where sustainability and circular thinking are 'the norm', and always working toward a zero waste target.
Connection Time
The foundations of eco-literacy are built in childhood by time spent in nature, mapping in a strong nature connection.

We enable the children in their peak learning and development years to be outdoors and in nature, in all weathers, seasons, and various habitats, to form a first-hand relationship with their natural and local surroundings.

Ecoliteracy Lens
We aim to give young people a lens through which to identify eco-friendly, sustainable materials and products.  A lens which can also identify pollutants normalised in our culture so they can make choices for the well-being of the planet and generations to come.

Normalise Sustainability & Circular Thinking
We provide a learning environment that considers all materials and our impact on the environment in a bid to normalise sustainable choices and sustainability.

We look at the knock-on effects of what we do in view of everything being connected.   Circular thinking actively considers the cycles we make with consumerism, consumption and waste – starting with the waste from our lunch boxes to the craft activities we take home.

Zero Waste Target
By making sustainable choices, evaluating and monitoring all materials brought into the learning environment and how they will impact the environment - in the short and long term - we actively work toward a Zero Waste Target.
